Kim Jong Il Correction

By Johnny Dorrello
On April 3, 2012

Months ago, an arguably self declared cynic attempted transcendence of himself from lowly event reporter to ironic satire hero by writing a comical obituary on the late King Jong Il. With as much praise came equal amounts of 'tisk tisk' with undertones of 'too soon.' The iliad of incredibly disrespectful poppycock and too soons were ever present.

Some of the most disrespectful satire from various columnists and yours truly were as follows.

"Kim Jong Il? More like Kim Jong Dead." Anonymous, yet popularly heard from just about everyone.

"I think the world will spin a little slower today now Kim is dead," said a North Korean man as he cried into his weekly allotted bowl of rice.

What crass. Who am I to judge how much a bowl of rice is to a man...right?

"Look at it this way: with Kim Jong Il dying, everybody will be moving up one spot in the world golf rankings," noted Dan Daly in a Twitter posting.

Quite possibly the biggest necrophilic slap to the deceased Demi-God was "Red Chapel," an unstaged mockumentary by Danish director Mads Brügger, where two Danish Korean comedians pose as a pair of thespians and intentionally put on a bad show through expert use of sarcasm and dead pan. The North Koreans somehow stay blissfully unaware to the point of using the duo for their own propaganda purposes. The scenes are hilariously excruciating to watch as the possibility of the death penalty is surely at every turn and punch line.

The show is reminscent of Sacha Baron Cohen's antics as Borat Sagdiyev, and most recently in a film based on such greats as Omar Khadafi and Sadaam Hussein.

"The Dictator" tells the story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he has so lovingly oppressed.

To break character, the negative too soon backlash could very well be a reflection of our unique times where we cheer when a dictator is overthrown by rebels who sodomize him with a knife, who are now in turn the inheritors of the 'new Libya'. But then again this could just be me being an over-opinionated Oprah. So let me apologize for poking fun at the late great leader Kim Jong Il, whom I unfairly harassed knowing he couldn't retaliate.

I must now leave it there so I can go purchase another confederate bumper sticker for my car as my old one was just ripped off by hate mongers. After all, its heritage not hate right? You can expect the quasi-apologetic correction for that one in next years April's fools issue.
