Selena is currently a junior at UWT pursuing a double major in Ethnic, Labor & Gender Studies and American Studies. She has recently moved to the Tacoma area from Renton.

Selena has been at UWT since fall quarter of 2011, and transferred from Bellevue College where she was very involved.

With her passion for history, she hopes to become an American Culture professor in the future. She wants to get her Master’s degree and Ph.D. somewhere on the East coast, around the Washington D.C. area.

Selena is also interested in social justice movements; one of her first was during her freshmen year of high school at the 1999 WTO riot in Seattle.

Some of her hobbies are baking, cooking, crocheting, and doing urban decay photography. She posts some of her creations that she has crocheted such as scarves and stuffed animals on Etsy where people can buy and sell vintage or handmade items.

Some of the urban decay photos she has taken in abandoned sites, such as older war areas like the Savannah Civil War town, old butcher shops, and many other places. You can see some of these fascinating pictures on her Facebook page. Selena lives with her fiancé, a pet tarantula, and two cats at their apartment.

She has an Elvis shrine in her home, because her and her family are huge Elvis fans. She is a huge Volkswagen enthusiast and owns a black Jetta. She only drives it during the summer in the nice weather and drives her truck the rest of the year.

Every Thursday, she would meet up with her friends where they would discuss Volkswagens, take pictures, add or fix things on their Volkswagens, and more.

Two of her favorite places to eat are the Hub and Red Hot. Her favorite things to order from Red Hot are the “Hosmer Hound” and their “Filthy Nachos.” Her favorite genre of movies is horror and her favorite movie would have to be “Silence of the Lambs.” She once worked at a Haunted House which she really enjoyed.

Selena  has a total of 30 hours worth of tattoos on her. She has four hours worth for each foot and is tattooed on her back, stomach and her arms. On one arm is the first promise of the Girl Scouts that states, “On my honor I will try.” When she was younger she was a Girl Scout and is now a mentor for the Girl Scouts.

You can find Selena at Cutters Point Coffee reading while sipping on her favorite Ethiopia Yirgacheffe coffee in the morning before class.

You can also find her at the Student Affairs Office in the Mattress Factory on Tuesdays and Thursdays working at the front desk. She is very friendly, fun and loves to meet new people. So feel free to stop by and say “hi” whenever you get a chance.
