Career week at UWT

During this past week, University of Washington Tacoma and the Marketing Society featured an entire week of career and internship opportunities. Many of the events included a prep-workshop, Q & A, and fairs for students to meet potential networking opportunities.

On April 4, UWT began its career week, and provided a career fair prep-workshop for students to prepare for the upcoming events that would feature a variety of companies. Jake Nelko, UWT’s student services specialist, was the speaker of the workshop.  The prep-workshop provided advice for students interested in enhancing their resumes, interviewing skills, and their overall confidence.

The Marketing Society Career Fair, during April 9 and 10 had featured the Tacoma Rainiers, Target, First Night Festival, Washington State Historical Society, American Income Life, Comcast, Northwestern Mutual, Brown and Brown Insurance, United Way, Purcell Advisory Services, and Jay Ray.

The Marketing Society held this event to provide valuable networking opportunities, for not only its members here on campus, but also to allow all UW students to have access to these opportunities. Erika Wolf, president of UWT’s Marketing Society, gave insight to how students can use these skills for the current job market, “[this event] allows students the opportunity to build their network which leads to more opportunities. Also, a lot of companies who guest speak at our events are looking for students who are interested in internships and careers with them.”

She also says that, “a lot of valuable information is exchanged during these events and it allows our students to better understand the concepts that we learn in our classes.” The career and internship fair continued on April 11 and 12, which featured even more companies and interviews for prospective students.
