Major plans for campus growth

University plans for the future with help from the community

As the University of Washington Tacoma campus grows, parking, housing and recreation space on the 46-acre campus are becoming more of a concern. At an open forum on May 29,facilities director Milt Tremblay presented the university's plan for handling growth over the next 20 years.

Dear Graduates, The Class of 2008 has left a strong legacy to UWT. Those of you who are among the 734 graduating Seniors were here as juniors at a pivotal moment in the life of this campus and had the chance to help welcome our first class of freshmen. You joined last year's seniors in helping to guide these new students and make sure their experience was one that was welcoming and inclusive.

Our journey began with a single step. Some came looking for a change in their careers. Some came in search of skills and education for their first career. Some came thinking, what career; you mean I have to get a job eventually? Some may still be thinking that, but the time is here for many of us to take our next step.

Education Program of the University of Washington Tacoma

Education Graduating Class of 2008, Congratulations on your successful completion of the Masters of Education. You have joined an elite group; less than ten percent of the adult population of the United States has a graduate or professional degree. You and your families should be very proud of this accomplishment as are we, the faculty and staff of the Education Program.

Nursing

Dear BSN and MN Nursing Graduates: From your first anxious day in a classroom at the University of Washington, Tacoma, or from your first encounter with a nursing faculty member at the Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, as a June 2008 graduate, you are the recipient of a great deal more then a BSN or MN degree.

Urban Studies

Dear Urban Studies Class of 2008, The faculty and staff of the Urban Studies program extend our warmest congratulations on your graduation from UW Tacoma! It has been a pleasure having you as part of our program, and you have done much to be a part of it. During your time here many of you have been actively involved in a wide range of program related activities.

Milgard School of Business

Milgard School of Business Congratulations to the graduating class of 2008! It seems like it was just the other day that you were at the orientation sessions in September 2006. The Milgard School of Business has made progress during your time here. Let me highlight the main areas and update you about some of our ongoing initiatives.

Congratulations graduates! I am honored to have served as the Interim Director of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences this year and am constantly impressed by the dedication of our students, faculty and staff and the overall commitment of our academic family to maintaining a collaborative and interdisciplinary learning community.

Global Honors

Dear seniors, The second class ever to make it through the gauntlet of Global Honors, you're no doubt battleweary-- no, a less military metaphor is needed for you literal and intellectual travelers: jet-lagged-but you're pulling across the fabled finish line--a finish line, I needn't remind you, that only marks the start of more journeys.
