Students for Social Work Organizations will hold an on-line auction benefiting the charity Caring For Kids from April 14th - 18th. Bidding is open to all, and prizes include dinner with Chancellor Patricia Spakes and Salsa Lessons. Jessica Villareal, the chair of SSWO made herself available for comment on the event.

The Ledger: Why did Students for Social Work Organizations choose to hold its auction on-line?

Jessica Villareal: We chose to do the auction online because it seemed like it would be easier to reach a larger audience. For example, because it's online we can connect our auction to Craig's List on the week of the auction which will hopefully pull in more bidders. Also, we are extremely busy and while some active students wanted to do an auction on campus this year, the amount of time and money were overwhelming!
L: How will the auction work? Will bidding be live?

JV: The auction will start the morning of April 14th it will be live and people can bid constantly until the night of April 18th. Then that next Saturday they can arrange on where to pick up their items that they won locally.

L: What specific projects and programs will the auction benefit?

JV: The auction will benefit children in poverty! Caring for Kids is a local nonprofit organization that gives shoes, coats, school supplies, etc to children in need in the Lakewood, Steilacoom, and University Place city.

L: How did UWT become involved in the auction? When?

JV:A few of the SSWO board members knew Diane, the founder of Caring for Kids and they had been to her business. We originally wanted to raise money to fix repair on her in need place of business, but after talking to her we realized that she often has to put coats and shoes on her credit card to give to the children in need, because she refuses to ever turn away a child in need. So we decided that raising money for her to be able to be stable would be more important than what her business may look like.
