The University of Washington Tacoma Services Activities and Fees Committee, which manages a pool of approximately $2 million in student funds, has streamlined its budget proposal process for all students.

Students can now request funds electronically through the SAFC website to receive funding for student publications, guest speakers, student government programs, child care assistance or other student-related events.

According to Shellie Jo Enscoe, SAFC manager, the SAFC Web site’s electronic submission process is in its "phase 1" mode and the process should be fully automated next year.

"You used to have to print out the submission forms or deliver them as an attachment," Enscoe said. "There was also no way for all the committee members to see it. Now, with phase 1, everyone sees it."

Any decision on funding will be processed through the annual budgeting process with the SAFC, or through the special allocation process, which is controlled by the UWT Student Activities Board.

To be considered for funding, students must provide detailed information on the costs involved for funding the activity, such as travel expenses, salaries, supplies and services, any outside funding sources, and an estimate of the projected revenue from the activity.

Students can expect a decision on their proposal within five days.

Any funds received will be available only for the current fiscal year and any excess funds received will be placed back in the SAFC pool and can be redistributed to other programs. Each fiscal year begins July 1 and ends June 30. The deadline for SAFC budget submissions is March 12 at 12 p.m.

To submit a budget request, or to apply to be a member of the SAFC, students can go to the following link from the UWT Web site: www.tacoma.washington.edu/student_affairs/life/safc.cfm
