The Fitness Center opened for operation Nov. 2, offering University of Washington students, faculty and staff the option to squeeze in a workout while on campus.
The facility features two elliptical running machines, two treadmills, one Cybex multi-gym machine, dumbbells, a stationary bicycle and stretching mats. Lockers are also available for usage. The gym lacks changing rooms and showers; however, both are available at the Science Building.
"It’s a little small, but it’s cool that we have one," said Marie McCarthy, a UWT student who works out at the Fitness Center.
So far, 62 members from the campus community have registered to use the facility, which is located on Pacific Avenue behind South Sound Running. Registration and use of the Fitness Center is free for UWT students, faculty and staff.
In order to provide assistance to patrons and also maintain a safe workout environment, the Fitness Center is staffed by UWT students. "I’m a huge fitness enthusiast," said Jeremy Fegley, a sophomore who works at the center. "I think it’s incredibly important to take good care of your body, and I’m here to help people out with that."
Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 12 p.m. – 8 p.m, and Friday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. To register, stop by the Fitness Center. For more information, call 692-4807.
