They can be seen on college campuses and on city streets handing out pamphlets warning of impending nuclear war and a return to an imperialistic society similar to the Roman Empire. On one occasion in the beginning of fall quarter, they had a table near the University Book store. Along with their pamphlets which warn of a new form of governmental fascism, they were handing out a book written by their leader titled “Children of Satan.”
This is not a religious cult, but rather a new political movement spawned by an 84-year-old man named Lyndon H. Larouche. According to his official Web site, www.larouchepac.com, Larouche has called on “all patriotic Americans to join him in pressing for the immediate impeachment of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.”
A former presidential candidate who served a prison term from 1988 to 1994 for mail fraud, conspiracy to commit mail fraud, and conspiracy to hide his personal income, Larouche is the leader of this movement which recruits mostly 18-25 year olds to fight against what he considers a new culture of fascism through music, science and higher education.,
Ironically, Larouche places a lot of the blame for the current problems in this country on the youth counter culture of the 1960s, which Larouche claims in his book, “Children of Satan,” created the baby boomer generation that became ignorant to social causes because they were too distracted by drug use and materialism. According to Larouche, this created a very dangerous future for the current population of young Americans, since the government has had many years to plant the seeds of an imperialistic, war mongering society.
According to Larouche’s book “Children of Satan,” the Bush administration has brought to power a group of “beast men,” with Dick Cheney being the top dog of this group. LaRouche’s book claims that the current administration is the apex of a new world order that has been systemically eroding individual rights so the average citizen can be more easily controlled by people of power. He contends that a “dumbing down” of creative thought and making higher education less assessable to people, is responsible for a creating a culture of “human cattle” content to live on bread crumbs while being distracted by entertainment.
A topic that comes up a lot in “Children of Satan” is a reference to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administration that existed just prior to World War II. Larouche writes that the FDR years were the last time that America lived by the U.S. Constitution and helped make the U.S. the highest producing nation in the world. He credits that achievement to a culture that embraced the arts and sciences along with creative thought. Since than, according to his book, the evolutionary clock is has been reversed by creating an indebted, corrupt nation based solely on conformity and open ended warfare.
Although many people seem to think Larouche is a cult leader or extremist, a lot of young people continue to volunteer to help Larouche’s political campaign through a commitment to literature, science, music and art.
