Student government vice president resigns
Heading into the second week of a pivotal year in the University of Washington, Tacoma's history, the student government is lacking a vice president.
Due to what student government leadership quoted as "personal reason," Fahiminah Siddiqui, the vice president heading into this school year, was given an ultimatum by the senators and president: either resign or face impeachment, according to a student government source.
Siddiqui was chronically absent for meetings, which made it impossible to hold any official meetings, since it is the vice president's duty to call the assembly to order. "Due to personal reasons, she was unable to commit the time necessary for her office," said student body president Nick Bubb.
Siddiqui was not available for comment at the time of press.
The process for hiring a new vice president is already underway. Seven students applied for the position by the deadline, and the selection committee is expecting to announce their pick for Siddiqui's successor by Oct. 13.
