On Monday, April 24, 2006 I was privileged to go to the Mariners versus the World Series Champions, the Chicago White Sox game, courtesy of the Student Activities Board. The game was slow-moving at first, but I was glad that I stayed until the end.
I want to thank the UWT Student Activities Board for making it all possible for me to be there on a gorgeous evening that continued to be full of entertainment and moments of mirth.
For instance, I couldn't stop laughing at the Chicago pitcher who had an obviously easy out when he got a grounder. All he had to do was toss it to first base, but instead, as he cocked his arm back to throw, the ball slipped out his hand and fell harmlessly to the ground. I also saw our little entourage, who by now was quite imbibed from all the hoopla and beer (because that's what college folks do), suddenly put up on the Jumbotron for all to see. Party over here, party over there, party on the third floor upper-deck tier where all my fellow Dawgs were gathered. I had long ago moved away from them and was actually sitting behind home plate.
But the one that broke the camel's back for me was when the Jumbotron focused on these three guys who looked to be of college age, who were dancing up quite a storm and having a good old time of it. I guess they really liked the song they were boogying to, having seats right next to the playing field. So one of them, in all the brouhaha, decides to get up on the rail, and still in sync to the music, does a complete back flip into the air and onto the field. He disappeared below my line of vision, and I couldn't tell you if he landed it, but after awhile I saw him being led away by security amid the boos of many disgruntled fans who let it be known that they disapproved of the treatment this acrobat/disco dancer was all of a sudden getting. I have never seen anything like that at a real life sports event.
So what an incredible experience! Once again I want to thank people like Janelle Schrum and the rest of the UWT Student Activities Board for making my life a little more exciting with such an entertaining and memorable experience. You know, I can't wait to do it again! I know the Mariners are fun, but DAWGS RULE!!!

One grateful dawg,
Richard Vendiola
