His tenure begins at the end of the spring quarter. The president-elect is gearing up for what will be a monumental year for the campus with the onslaught of freshmen in the fall. After he attended a busy ASUWT Senate meeting, Bubb sat down and discussed his aspirations and goals for the upcoming year and the UWT campus.
With the advent of the Student Activities Board, the focus of ASUWT has moved away from event planning. What is the purpose of ASUWT currently?
The purpose of ASUWT is to advocate for student needs and student issues. My purpose as president is to work with the vice-president and the senate to make sure that as a team we're all working towards our goals for the campus.
What are some projects that ASUWT will be focusing on in the next year?
We're actually going to be working very closely with the administration for our recreation and fitness center.
Students without medical insurance (will) have medical, dental, vision and mental healthcare available to them starting in the fall. So our job is going to be awareness, because there are probably some people who need insurance that don't know it's going to be available.
We're going to have a snack shop that's going to have healthier food options that will be available in the OuWTpost.
We want to be working with the legislators down in Olympia. We hired a lobbyist this year to represent our interests down there for our campus. Right now we're getting the learning experience and setting things up so that future generations will have something to go with.
What is something that people might not realize about ASUWT and its officers?
I think maybe people don't realize how many hours that we put in. We're required to work a minimum number of hours and we all work more than that and it's never been a burden. It's fun to be in the office. When we work together it's a light but serious atmosphere and we enjoy getting stuff done. Some of the changes that we have going on are very exciting.
As president next year, what is something that you'll be involved in personally?
I'm definitely going to be involved with all new student orientations. It's going to be one very important thing for me since we're bringing freshmen in for the first time. I think it's our job, especially mine, to make them feel welcome and to show up at every orientation to make sure that they're fitting in all right and that things are working for them.
