Proud recipient of the spring 2006 JC-B WTF?-in-design award:
My significant other is a beer non-snob. He quite enjoys Bud Light, and thought the new bottles looked neat. What I want to know is if a glass bottle is good enough, and an aluminum can is good enough, why'd they have to mate the two together in some weird Alumibottle? To which my loquacious mate replied, "meh."
Do I know you from somewhere?
Never thought I would be the lounge lizardette to utter those words, but sure enough, there they were. Turns out I did know the barkeep at Doyles (208 St Helens Ave, over 21 only!) from my days as a frequent sipper at the Engine House. Dave Shelnut is now the proprietor, with help from a silent partner, of a new runaway success story.
"I'm happy with this. I can start paying bills!" a bemused-looking Shelnut said.
As of Friday, he was running out of food and booze, thanks to the stream of people coming through his doors. Not that he advertised anywhere-advertising was done for free, courtesy of text messages from patrons to their friends telling them to come check out the new watering hole.
Same general area, worlds apart.
Went to Red Robin (3901 S. Steele St.) as a family to have dinner. I had a "Mexican" salad and two margaritas. He had fish & chips and a beer, child had a kid's meal. We walked out $50.00 lighter in the wallet. Next night, we had a meal on the same street, more or less. Went to Tacos Guyamas (2630 S. 38th) and had a Super taco salad, mega-mammoth burrito, two beers, and a kid's meal. $23.00 later, we were no less gustatorially satisfied, but considerably happier about the price.
Unchained, or trying to be:
Had a lovely breakfast at the Renaissance Cafe (1746 Pacific Ave) For just a scosche over $10, I had scrambled eggs, whole wheat toast, and coffee and the Junior Miss had a whole wheat bagel, ham and a Snapple. We sat by the window enjoying the Sunday views of blue skies and architecture--ahh, bliss.
Don't eat the gray snow!
