Unpredictable weather is as certain as the Daffodil Parade in Tacoma, with both occurring imminently. The Daffodil Festival celebrates its 73rd year, with the YMCA "Y Run for Kids" kicking off the festivities at 8:30. Starting at the Washington History Museum, registration costs $20 and includes a tee shirt.
The Grand Floral Parade, with floats, flowers and the ubiquitous yellow-wearing princesses, follows the run.
New for this year, the Festival will continue after the parade, with vendors, arts and crafts displays, a flower show, hundreds of classis cars and much more. The Tacoma Blues and Jazz Festival will also follow the parade, with shows at four local venues, the Rialto, the Pantages, the Theatre on the Square and the Harmon Pub and Brewery. More information can be found at the Tacoma Events Commission website, www.tacomaevents.com.
If street festivals and jazz aren't your thing, Earth Day also falls on the same day as the parade. Tacoma's Metro Parks are running "Parks Appreciation Day" -bring a trowel and gloves and pitch in to clean up a local park. Tacoma Nature Center is also hosting a free celebration, contact (253)591-6439 for more information.
