More coffee art! Not only was the barrista at the Mandolin (3923 South 12th St.) cute as a button, she also made a mean latte. My salad was tasty, my daughter's couscous divine, and my friend enjoyed her ham and brie panini-all told, a great lunch! "Boozey" as an adjective? The bartender at the Primo Grill (601 South Pine St.) described the Blue Note martini with that word. When I sipped the gorgeous gin/vodka/blue curacao concoction I realized just how apropos the adjective was. The Voxmopolitans there are the perfect blend of sweet/tart/booze, and the deserts, sublime. A tale of two salads: had a lovely walk down to the Museum of Glass Cafe (1801 Dock St.), and enjoyed a lovely $8.79 Asian Chicken Salad. While at the Tacoma Art Museum (1701 Pacific Ave), I enjoyed, even more, the Northwest Winter Salad at Untitled Cafe, despite its $9.00 price. Two more salads, college-style. Subway (1910 Pacific Ave) makes a mean spinach chicken salad, $5.29. I love that I can customize it like a car, but I hate how sometimes the people in front of me in line really don't know what they want. Hotrod Dog (1742 Pacific Ave--beside South Sound Running) makes a big salad for $4.99, but the veggies were pretty basic. Still--what did I expect from a place whose hotdogs come close to reaching dog-divinity? Timesuck, n., 1. that thing which renders its participant oblivious to the passage of minutes, hours, days. 2. the internet. My favorite timesuck of late: http://www.overheardinspace.com --formerly Overheard in New York, there's some hilarious, albeit adult content here. Another good, though grown-up site:http://postsecret.blogspot.com. Just plain funny: http://www.cowabduction.com. Please give me more at ledger@u.washington.edu --subject: timesucks. (Just so you know, Jess dines on her own dime, or that of her significant other. All opinions are her own, and not solicited by the establishments or entities mentioned. Though, she does want to hear what you, her readers, are drinking, eating, seeing.)
