While there are plans in place to finish this year in style, University of Washington, Tacoma students may not even know about them.

"We're spending your money," said Anthony Strickland, ASUWT Senator and chair of the Graduation Committee. "We need more input, more support."

Strickland said that a poll was issued to find out how UWT students wished to celebrate the end of the school year, but only about 100 people responded.

"That wasn't really enough," said Strickland, who is graduating this June.

Despite the lack of student input, the committee has submitted a funding proposal to the recently formed Student Activities Board to fund an End of the Year Party.

The committee has decided not to call it a graduation party in order to be more inclusive.

"I think that's better because you're friends with people but you don't always know when they're going to graduate," said UWT student Catherine Gouker. "It would be nice to get together and hang out one last time."

So far the committee has secured a hypnotist and a DJ and plans to have prizes and raffles.

In addition to the End of the Year Party, the committee has two other objectives on the table.

They are working to find a student speaker and a student singer to participate in the commencement ceremony.

While auditions for the student speaker are already taking place, Strickland said that auditions for the student singer will take place during the second or third week in April.
