Hi. I’d like to take the opportunity to welcome you to campus. My name is Mark Dodson and I represent you as the President of student government, which is occasionally referred to as Associated Students of UW Tacoma. Popular to common belief, ASUWT is not just the members of the government, ASUWT is you.

I encourage you to stop by the office (located between the copy center and the vending machines in WCG 102) when you get the chance and say hi, or have a cup of coffee (trust me, coffee is about to be your new best friend). Most importantly, I want to persuade you to get involved on campus this year.

You will find, as have those who came before you, that the most positive and enriching aspects of your college career take place in the space and time you will spend outside the classroom. We have many ways in which to get involved. For those who don’t have a lot of time to spare, we have committee positions open, both administrative and ASUWT-related.

We also have Senate positions for every academic program on campus, as well as a couple of office positions, both of which are paid.

Involvement in student government is not only an excellent way to get to know your fellow students, but a great way to learn how our campus operates.

The University of Washington Tacoma is not just another building in the district, but part of a flourishing community; consequently, the student government within it is not just an office, but a space to come together and discuss ideas. It was this philosophy that sparked the idea of creating a childcare option for students and for developing the relationship that students have with administration.

The members of student government are accessible in and out of the office, extending our team to you. I, along with the rest of the team (which include the Vice-President, Directors of Public Relations and Legislative Affairs as well as the Senate), look forward to representing your interests on our diverse campus this year.

If you have any concerns, questions, or ideas you would like to share, please feel free to contact us anytime by calling the office at 692-4429, emailing us at either asuwt@u.washington.edu or our new comment line, uwtideas@u.washington.edu.

We also have a new website where you can visit to check everything from bios of the entire team to our events calendar, to our committee page at www.asuwt.org. Thanks, and have a great year.

President, ASUWT
