Dear Husky Talk,

As a shy person that doesn't make friends easily, the beginning of every quarter is difficult for me. Do you have any suggestions for getting to know people?

Thanks,

Shy Girl

Dear Shy Girl,

At the beginning of the quarter many people are a little shy. My best advice for you is to make an effort to talk to the people you sit next to. Lots of students sit one or two seats away from other peers and never try to strike up a conversation. Don't be that person. Introduce yourself and ask them what year they are in, what their major is, if they've had this professor before, or what other classes they have. By doing that not only will you have a new acquaintance, the two of you can take notes for each other when classes are missed. You could also try starting a study group and suggest meeting for coffee or tea.  Attending campus events is also an excellent way to meet new people.  Whatever you choose, don't be afraid to take a risk. You may be rewarded with a lifelong friend.

Good Luck,

Your Husky Pal
