For the third consecutive year the Apple Cup will remain in Seattle after a 38-21 win over WSU at CenturyLink Field.
"We have another year of bragging rights and it feels good" said senior Alameda Ta'amu which seemed to sum up the feeling for all Husky fans.
The Apple Cup was full of unforgettable plays, many made by younger players, and the defense we have been waiting to see all season finally showed itself.
From the start, the Huskies meant business and it all began with a punt. When WSU's Dan Wagner came in to punt, Thomas Tutogi was in the right place at the right time. With Tutogi reaching out to swipe the ball as the punt was made, and Jesse Callier's reception, sprinting to the end zone, the Huskies took an early lead. One they wouldn't give up. Both Tutogi and Callier are sophomores at UW and we have high hopes of seeing more great plays come from them in the future. Speaking of young players, freshman Kasen Williams made an unsuspected play. With his amazing jump over WSU's Nolan Washington, the crowd was in awe.
When asked if the play was instinctive, Williams replied, "As soon as I turned my head around I saw that it was me and him… and I figured why not, let's try to make something happen right here."
Throughout the game Williams caught five passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns, leaving coach Sark to say, "That's not the last of Kasen Williams, that's for sure."
As the fans were fired up in the stands and the noise level in CenturyLink Field rose, sophomore quarterback Keith Price shattered Pickett's 2002 single season touchdown pass record of 28. After the Apple Cup, Price stands at 29 touchdown passes and still has a bowl to play. Price could end this season as the first Husky to throw 30 touchdown passes in one season.
Huskies end the regular season at 7-5, and the Pac-12 at 5-4. The Huskies are the eighth team since 1960 to make two bowl games within three years of a winless season. With outstanding plays and such promise from our young players, Husky fans can have high hopes for a bright future.
